On wednesday September 13th I sat down with Aidan and Amy from The Stank Boiz before they played their set for performance week at TAFE. Their drummer Jamie replaced by friend Michael because, in true musician fashion, he slept in. They told me about why the band exists, what coming up for them and what to expect at their show.
I started by asking how the band came about. They told me as part of their course they were required to start or join a band and didn’t fancy anything that already existed so they decided to go out on a limb and start something new and different. Singer, Aidan recruiting Jamie to play drums and Amy on bass. Amy describes their music as comedy punk and Aidan insists it is 100% serious. They launch into a friendly disagreement ending in hysterical laughter making it clear that they are friends just making music for fun.
That fun clearly paid off as earlier in the week they found out their song entitled “The Bus Song”, which they describe to me as a song that “opens your third eye”, made it onto the TAFE compilation CD. Aidan and Amy quickly telling me that they were shocked but Michael piped in saying “I don’t think it was any sort of surprise I mean The Stank Boiz have always been a very, very artful band.”
This very supportive statement is followed by another tangent about new band names; all musing the idea Minor Third Eye for a moment, they finally come back to me and ask what the question was even though I hadn’t asked one.
The Stank Boiz will be releasing their debut EP ‘New EP 2017 (flame emoji)’ online at the end of the year.
