Albums You Should Check Out From The First Half of 2020!

By Dirk Street
Run The Jewels- RTJ4
RTJ4 is a triumph for Run The Jewels, but it also represents a tragedy for the United States. The fact that songs like Walking In The Snow were recorded over a year ago, but still contain lyrics about police brutality that are even more relevant today, is a sad reflection on the social and the political landscape plaguing the country.
“You so numb, you watch the cops choke out a man like me
Until my voice goes from a shriek to whisper, “I can’t breathe”
Angry, politically charged, and absolutely vital for 2020, RTJ4 is an essential listen for any hip hop fan this year.
Yves Tumor- Heaven to a Tortured Mind
It’s no coincidence Yves Tumor’s real last name is Bowie, as Heaven To a Tortured Mind channels an immense amount of David Bowie’s glam rock style and merges it Yves’ killer drum work and strange electronic textures. This is their most accessible work yet, and songs like Gospel For a New Century and Kerosene are strong contenders for the best singles of the year. If you’re looking for something a bit experimental that still remembers to keep things catchy and engaging throughout, Heaven For a Tortured Mind is a must.
Spacey Jane- Sunlight
Spacey Jane’s long awaited debut delivered in spades this year, proving that Fremantle is one of the best places in the world for indie rock right now. Sunlight is a great example of; If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. The album is absolutely loaded with incredibly catchy pop rock songs that are built to be absolutely belted during a festival. It’s a shame we’ll have to wait to hear most of these songs played live, but once they’re able to be fully unleashed onto the touring scene again, Spacey Jane are poised to take over not just Australia, but the rest of the world.
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever- Sideways to New Italy
Along with Spacey Jane, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever are proving to the music world that Australia is a forced to be reckoned with in the Indie Rock scene. Their latest album is full of songs that are as impressive on a structural level as they are catchy, lead single Cars in Space initially plays itself off as a fairly straightforward song, before an incredible instrumental breakdown in the outro subverts all expectations set up earlier in the track. If you’re looking for one of the strongest indie rock/post punk releases of the year, look no further.
Charli XCX- How I’m Feeling Now
An album born directly from the COVID-19 pandemic, How I’m Feeling Now is a refinement of the trailblazing pop music Charli XCX has been pumping out over the last half a decade. The album was recorded in just over a month while Charli was locked down in her home studio in California, but the sheer amount of polish and fresh ideas throughout makes it feel like an album other pop artists would spend years to make. It’s an album that perfectly represents why Charli is one of the most unique and exciting pop artists in the music industry today.

RECONCILITATION WEEK OVERVIEW 2020

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) started as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993 (the International Year of the World’s Indigenous Peoples) and was supported by Australia’s major faith communities. In 1996, the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation launched Australia’s first NRW.
In 2000, Reconciliation Australia was established to continue to provide national leadership on reconciliation. In the same year, approximately 300,000 people walked across Sydney Harbour Bridge as part of NRW, to show their support for reconciliation.
Today, NRW is celebrated by businesses, schools and early learning services, organisations, and individuals Australia-wide. Hundreds of NRW events are held each year.
This year, Reconciliation Week was held between 27th of May to the 3rd of June 2020.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING

Ready to figure out your social media marketing strategy but have no idea where to start, you’re not alone. Social Media is as complicated as it gets and not as straightforward as it used to be. That’s why we have put together a comprehensive guide to creating a social media marketing plan from scratch.
First off, make sure to create an account for the most popular social platforms. Today’s most popular platforms are Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and more.
Make sure all accounts are turned into business accounts if possible, so then you can keep track on engagements and add all business contact information.
Choose a name that fits to your brand/ business. Something that reflects who you are and what you do.
Make sure to have a display picture, it can be a photo of yourself or your brand logo. This is very important as it is one of the first things people look at when viewing your profile.
Have a great description. Inform every service you provide and skill sets. People want to know what you do and if they are hooked from the description, they might even send through a message or email for more information!
Post regularly! Nothing like having an empty profile for your audience to browse through. They want to see if you are active and keeping your followers in the loop constantly.
Follow relevant accounts as much as you can. This way, your page might appear on people’s feeds as ‘similar to this’ or ‘based on pages you follow’.
Hashtag and tag as much as possible. People will search hashtags and your post could appear to a new audience. When tagging accounts, it can come up on a new audience’s feed.
Even searching trendy hashtags yourself can keep you in the loop of the latest trends on social media and the real world.
Add all social media links on every platform.
Invite all your friends and their friends to follow your page.
Research and understand your target audience and know who your competition is. And last but not least, make sure to always create and curate engaging content!!
